It was life just as we lived it on Ward 57. Helping all of the wounded soldiers and their families deal with the horrific injuries. Sylvia was lucky enough to get to go out on forays with the guys to go skiing and the like and I am sure that was a terrific time for her. I wouldn't trade this time in my life for anything but it has taken its toll on me. Wow. If you want a peak inside the world of nursing and the diverse opportunities this profession can bring, this is definitely the book to read.
Interesting reading about a nursing profession/biography. I purchased several to pass along to family and friends who are associated with nursing.
This is an excellently written book about Sylvia's nursing career. Her life as a nurse is an inspiration to anyone who is considering a career in nursing. Also, she shows that a person can follow their dreams even with family obligations. This is a book to pass on to our children, grandchildren and any young person who may be considering nursing as a career. Enjoy!
This was a very interesting and well-written book. For anyone going into nursing, or having a close relationship with a nurse, it shows how many possibilities and rewards one can gain from such a career.
I would recommend "I Want Chocolate Cake for Dinner!" to anyone that enjoys reading about nursing and real life experiences. Sylvia is a personal friend of mine and my husband is one who encouraged her to write a book as she was always writing (recording vital info about his condition, etc.) when she came to visit him. The stories she tells are inspiring, and would inspire young people to think about nursing as a career. Sylvia is a person to be admired because of her passion for those who are in need of medical care, and this shows in the book.
